SOLID GOLD, AND WHAT THAT ACTUALLY MEANS

Our plated pieces are sterling silver with a thick layer of gold on top. Beautiful, and made to be worn hard, but the gold sits on the surface. Solid gold is gold all the way through. It will not wear off, it will not tarnish, and it does not have a lifespan.

That is why every piece here is hallmarked at the assay office, and why we tell you the gram weight. You are buying the metal as much as the design, and you should be able to see what you are getting.

MADE FOR YOU, OR READY TO GO

Most solid gold is made to order. Your piece is cast, set and hallmarked for you, and that takes about six weeks from the day you order. It is the slowest thing we do, and the reason these pieces outlast everything else we make.

Where we have a piece ready, we say so on the product and it goes out in three to five working days. Either way you will know which before you pay.

Questions

Is it really solid gold?

Yes. Solid gold is gold all the way through, not a layer on top of another metal. Our plated pieces are sterling silver with a thick layer of gold over it, which is a different thing and priced as one. Everything in this collection is 9k or 14k gold throughout, and hallmarked to prove it.

What is the difference between 9k and 14k?

The number is how much of the metal is pure gold. 9k is 37.5% gold, 14k is 58.5%. More gold means a warmer, deeper colour and a higher price. 9k is a little harder, so it stands up well to daily wear. Both are solid gold, both are hallmarked, and both will last. 14k is the one to choose if colour matters most to you.

Is it hallmarked?

Yes, at the assay office. A hallmark is an independent test of the gold content, struck into the piece itself, and it is a legal requirement in the UK above a certain weight. It is the reason we can tell you exactly what you are buying rather than asking you to take our word for it.

Can I return a made to order piece?

Please email us at info@aarialondon.com before you order if you are unsure, and we will help you choose. A made to order piece is cast and hallmarked for you, so it is treated differently from a stock item. Email us and we will tell you exactly where you stand before you commit.

Can my ring be resized?

Most of our solid gold rings can be resized, though it depends on the design: a plain band is straightforward, a fully set band is not. Email us at info@aarialondon.com with the piece and your size and we will tell you what is possible before you order.

What is moissanite, and how does it compare to a diamond?

Moissanite is its own stone, not an imitation diamond. It is nearly as hard, so it stands up to daily wear, and it throws more coloured light than a diamond does, which is why it reads as brighter. It costs a fraction of the price, so it buys you a larger stone for the same money. If you want a diamond specifically, we set both lab grown and natural diamonds.
